Ever wonder what makes a marketing campaign stand out? It’s all about great design. While design enhances your website, social media posts, and brand logo, it’s more than just aesthetics. Design is the glue that ties your marketing strategy together. It grabs attention, tells your story, and makes your message stick.

It transforms simple ideas into impactful visuals, proving that design isn’t just nice to have—it’s essential. Our design team embodies this transformative journey from concept to completion, and today, we’re thrilled to offer an insider look at our unique methodologies, collaborative efforts, and problem-solving skills.

Behind the Canvas: Meet the Design Dream Team

Ever wondered who’s behind those eye-catching designs that make you stop scrolling? Let’s pull back the curtain and introduce you to our design team!

As the team manager, my role is to steer the creative process and support the entire design team. The rest of the dream team includes Ines, Marcela, Juan, Ximena, Camilo, and Diego, each bringing their unique flair to the table.

So, what does a day in the life of our design squad look like? Let us give you a peek into what’s cooking in our team’s creative kitchen.

My day revolves around setting the artistic direction for projects and guiding how each design should look. I also checks the quality of the work by reviewing and improving designs to meet high standards. Additionally, Paola assigns tasks to team members to make sure everyone knows what to do, and things get done on time.

Her artistic direction makes our design team the creative spark behind our projects. From the first ideas to the final touches, they make sure every design choice aligns with the project’s needs and the audience’s wants.

What Makes the Design Team Successful?

Attention to detail!

I always say, “You can be the most creative person in the world, but if you don’t pay attention to detail, your design won’t be as good.”

Without paying close attention to the small details, the designs might not turn out as well as they could. This lack of detail can mean the final product doesn’t meet the client’s expectations or needs.

And listening skills.

During the design process, designers often receive feedback from clients, team members, or others involved in the project. This feedback can be suggestions, critiques, and observations about the design work.

Listening carefully to this feedback is important because it helps understand what aspects must be changed or improved. This way, the final design aligns more with the project goals and transforms initial ideas into polished designs that better satisfy the client’s vision and objectives.

A diagram of how great designs come to life.

Have you ever thought about how an idea evolves from a simple sketch to a great visual masterpiece? Our design team has its own creative process, combining inspiration, careful planning, and teamwork to bring ideas to life.

1. Understand the Client

When Allied Insight gets a new client, the first thing our team does is understand who they’re working with. I emphasize to my team that truly understanding the client is the foundation of any successful design project. We start by researching, gathering, and reviewing all available information about the client’s brand, history, and current visual identity.

This helps avoid mismatched visuals and ensures the design communicates the right message.

2. Evaluate Current Design Elements

After getting to know the client, we create an assessment that gives us a clear direction about what things have to be improved or delivered.

This step involves:

  • Reviewing existing design elements
  • Identifying areas for improvement
  • Determining what new designs need to be created
  • Looking for inconsistencies, outdated visuals, or missed opportunities that could be leveraged to strengthen the brand’s impact.

3. Develop a Mood Board

After the assessment, we create a moldboard to establish the graphic style. It’s a great way for us to experiment with different themes, colors, styles, and imagery that reflect the brand’s personality. This helps us pinpoint which elements could be upgraded or refreshed to better match the client’s goals.

4. Execute Design Tasks

Once the mood board is set, it’s time to bring the design to life. The team kicks off by seeking inspiration. We dive into current design trends, study what other designers are doing, and explore various creative resources. This exploration sparks their creativity and sets the stage for design solutions.

Once we’ve gathered ideas, we use tools like Canva for most assets like social media posts, videos, one-pagers, and brochures; Figma for web design; and InDesign and Illustrator for detailed projects like whitepapers or salary guides. We then create mock-ups and prototypes to ensure it aligns with the initial vision.

I also track tasks in a large Google Drive sheet, assigning work to different designers and clients. This sheet is my main guide, and I use Asana to manage tasks. If the team has any questions or need clarification, we contact our marketing communications (MarCom) team. This way, we ensure everything is perfectly aligned and looks great.

5. Deliver the Final Design

Our design team’s goal is to turn ideas into designs that aren’t just eye candy but stick with you long after the first look.

The team pours their creativity and attention into every detail and makes sure everything is thoughtfully created. We’re all about going the extra mile to create something impressive that surpasses what the client imagined and blows them away.

Creative Bumps and Fixes: How They Turned Things Around

The path from concept to completion isn’t without its challenges. There are indeed bumps along the way, but our creative team knows how to turn those speedbumps into stepping stones.

One of the team’s biggest challenges is the need to constantly be creative. I always remind them to rest their brains because constant creativity can be draining. That’s why we use templates and just update the information or photos to keep things fresh while saving time. The job is tough because it involves juggling multiple clients and shifting focus between different projects.

Not everyone finds it easy, but I keep the team’s spirits high by sharing useful tips and social media finds that bring a smile to everyone’s face. I try to create a positive atmosphere and offer support to help everyone stay inspired and energized, even with the demanding nature of our work.

Common Design Errors to Steer Clear of

Even if you create a stunning design, if you don’t choose the right way to present the message, you might miss the point of what you’re trying to communicate.

When working on infographics for blogs or other projects, it’s important to highlight the main message. Writers and editors often know which messages are most important, but designers might not always see it the same way. For example, a designer might think a certain word should be bigger for emphasis, but it may not align with what the writer actually wants to emphasize.

That’s why our design team works on improving communication with other teams to make sure important messages are presented as intended.

Teamwork Across Departments: How We Make It Work

Effective collaboration is at the heart of our design process. We believe in working hand-in-hand with different departments to create a cohesive approach. Here’s how our creative team makes it all work:

  • Marketing Communications: Our design team collaborates with the Marcom team because they need to synchronize on different aspects, such as project timelines, client requests, and the transition from design to web development.
  • Content Team: We work with the content team to create images for blog posts and premium assets. Although this interaction is less frequent and usually focused on specific tasks, there’s a great opportunity to deepen this connection—especially on projects like infographics. Strengthening this collaboration can help streamline our processes and produce high-quality content for our clients and audience.

Each of these standout projects showcases the creativity, skill, and dedication that define our team’s creative process.

Calendar for Allied Insight

I was particularly proud of a project where we worked with Allied Insight to revamp an internal calendar. The goal was to create a design that was new and eye-catching and transformed how the calendar was perceived. We were thrilled with the result, as it allowed the team to explore creatively and experiment with new design elements and colors.

MarCom Awards

I also felt a deep pride when we submitted our work for the Marcom Awards. It was a thrilling moment to see all our hard work gathered into one impressive document. We were particularly excited to show the before-and-after of a website redesign or rebuild that illustrates the significant improvements and creative effort put into the project.

Winning some Marcom Awards for their work was the cherry on top of this experience. The team couldn’t be prouder of this achievement, and it’s a shining example of their hard work and talent.

If you’re looking for a tip on improving visual branding for staffing firms, my answer is “Contact us!” It’s a bit like saying, “Why not call in the pros?” And honestly, it’s as simple as that! But all fun aside, partnering with professionals can make all the difference.

Here are some nuggets of wisdom:

  1. Embrace the New – While many of us in the staffing industry still use traditional ways to present information, it’s important to recognize that the job market is changing.
  2. Speak to the Youth – As younger, tech-savvy professionals enter the workforce, their expectations and preferences are different from previous generations. To connect with this new wave of talent, it’s time to modernize your approach. You can adopt contemporary design trends, use engaging and relevant communication styles, and stay updated to the latest digital tools and platforms.
  3. Keep It Simple – Less is more; when you have lots of elements, you can lose the message or intention of the piece.
  4. Stay Flexible – Remember, different clients might want different things. Some love bold colors, while others prefer a more serious tone. Be ready to adapt!

Embracing these changes helps you stay competitive and appealing to potential clients and candidates and ensures that your messaging speaks to your audience’s values and interests.
